Description

Examples of Important Duties

  1. Conducts major repairs including rebuilding, changing, aligning, and modifying components and assemblies of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles by fitting and installing parts needed to exacting tolerances, clearances, and specifications.
  2. Replaces or overhauls brake and fuel systems, generators, alternators, starters, distributors, and electronic ignition systems. 
  3. Performs regular preventive maintenance on vehicles and other equipment. 
  4. Assigns and checks work of other Mechanics, Trades Trainees, and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support skilled trade’s workers.
  5. Completes required administrative paperwork and recordkeeping.
  6. Drives motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, materials, and supplies. 
  7. Utilizes personal protection equipment such as respirator, foot and eye protection while performing duties; performs critical Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliance work to remove barriers.
  8. Provides instructions on proper use and safety measures; ensures safe and efficient work practices are followed.
  9. Monitors fuel sites to ensure regulatory compliance and checks fueling systems, monitors fuel tank during deliveries.
  10. Provides on-call emergency repair services to park rides; maintains snowplow equipment during storm events to minimize down time. Provides roadside rescue and towing services.
  11. Identifies and complies with unique regulatory (Department of Transportation) or manufacturer Specifications.
  12. Attends training to increase knowledge, awareness and safety

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Completion of an approved mechanical apprentice program; or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair on automotive and/or heavy motor equipment.
  3. Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  5. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
  6. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within 12 months of employment.
  7. Pass Commission medical examination.


Working Conditions
Occasionally performs work indoors and outdoors; exposure to varied weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain, etc.), dirt, grease, noise, dust, exhaust fumes, and caustic chemicals. Positions in this class occasionally remains in a stationary position, move about inside and outside, operate and maneuver vehicles, tools and equipment, ascend and descend ladders, position self to complete manual work, pull and use fingers to perform mechanical work, move equipment, tools and objects The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves. Work requires constant bending, lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be available to work during emergencies or be on-call 24 hours for emergencies

Work Hours:  6:30 am – 3:15 pm. Subject to location.
