Job Summary:

This job reports both to a system vice president and a campus executive of the hospital.  The director will support strategic initiatives and operations for Surgical Services at the hospital and the surgery center, if applicable.  In addition, this job also plans, directs, evaluates, and communicates the activities of the Perioperative units to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

Provides effective leadership by coordinating and integrating services within their department, with other departments, and with the hospital's primary functions.

Directs and leads allocation of staffing, surgical scheduling, and equipment resources between the hospital and outpatient surgical settings.

Rounds on surgeons to give and provide feedback. Serves as interface between medical and nursing team members.

Supports and leads campus and system initiatives for Surgical Services.

Leads Perioperative improvement initiatives utilizing Lean and CAP/Workout strategies. Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the services.

Develops and implements budget, including processes to monitor operational and capital costs.

Directs and leads department personnel resources by: determining qualifications, competence, and performance expectations; planning, implementing, and monitoring staffing plans; providing orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department; and applying policies and procedures pertaining to human resources management.

Continuously assesses and improves the department's performance by designing operational processes, monitoring performance through data, analyzing the data, implementing sustainable performance improvement, and participating in multi-disciplinary, inter-departmental PI activities.

Directs and leads information by providing information systems and data management for department operations and performance improvement.

Directs and leads the environment (of care) by developing, implementing, and monitoring processes to reduce and control environmental hazards and risks; maintaining regulatory standards;  preventing accidents and injuries; and maintaining safe conditions for patients, staff, and visitors.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years in nursing practice; previous management experience.

Number and Type of Team Members Supervised: Licensed and unlicensed personnel.

Licensure, Registry, or Certification: Currently licensed as an RN in South Carolina.

Special Training: Must have demonstrated experience in coordinating the planning, directing, and evaluation of patient care; effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
