Description

The Accounting Manager plays an important role in the Financial Accounting team which works within the Avangrid Renewables Finance and Accounting Department and is responsible for many of the activities impacting the financial statements for Avangrid Renewables. ARHI is included in the consolidated financial statements for Avangrid, Inc. (US listed entity), which is ultimately included in the consolidated financial statements of Iberdrola SA (foreign issuer), and responsibilities will include external reporting under both IFRS and US GAAP. The Accounting Manager participates in all aspects and activities of the accounting cycle to ensure the company's deadlines are met with accuracy and completeness in support of the Financial Reporting department.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Supervise day-to-day activities of the Financial Accounting and Fixed Assets departments focused on accounting related to renewable energy operations, maintenance, administration, general expenses, capital expenditures, and depreciation,.
• Plan and structure work activities and set deadlines for the team; subsequently monitor the progress and results.
• Work with Avangrid to provide accounting information requests, supervise period-end close cycles, execute of internal controls effectively, among other items.
• Direct efforts in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures, and policies.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
• Work with Avangrid and Iberdrola to ensure the appropriateness and accuracy of the monthly accounting in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS.
• Interact with other departments within and outside of the Accounting organization to respond in an accurate and timely fashion to inquiries related to the general ledger.
• Lead and direct accountants in daily accounting, month-end close cycles, and other tasks related to the maintenance of the general ledger.
• Review journal entries and analyze for appropriate accounting treatment.
• Review balance sheet account reconciliations prepared by accountants for accuracy and completeness and
facilitation of the correction of reconciling items identified.
• Participate in and coordinate external and internal audits.
• Ensure accounting processes are Sarbanes-Oxley compliant through review of existing controls and implementation of new processes.
• Adhere to effective internal controls and timely completion.
• Responsible for staffing, professional development and providing input to management on their team's overall performance.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 7+ years' experience in Accounting.
• Previous management experience.
• Sound understanding of US GAAP, including application.
• Experience with and understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• General ledger experience with major accounting systems and spreadsheet programs.
• Self-motivated.
• Ability to work independently with little management oversight. Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
• CPA license
• Graduate business degree
• Energy experience
• SEC reporting experience
• Systems experience in SAP
• Knowledge of IFRS
