Title: Powertrain Designer - Polaris Industries
Location: Wyoming - MN

Job Summary

Prepare design, layouts and drawings according to engineering specifications or own ideas, using PTC Creo. Responsible for all data required to develop a design and carry it through to production.


1. Creates and releases 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings and performs analyses to support the above and supervise as well as participate in their release through the release cycle
2. Plans, organizes and coordinates own work as well as communicates through regular updates, accountable for meeting schedule completion dates or for providing timely feedback when dates cannot be met
3. High performing Sr. Designers also perform engineering calculations to support component design and engine-based decisions (i.e. air flow testing, shaking force analyses of engines)
4. Schedules self for assigned tasks and conducts tasks per project plan
5. Delegates, prioritizes and organizes work of other team members occasionally
6. Works effectively with system engineers and project team to execute Powertrain programs
7. Works directly with vendors to drive design for manufacturability
8. Ability to layout and control engine systems, present solutions to design problems and meet cost targets
9. Creates and executes complex design, drafting, and layout drawings
10. Reviews engineering drawings and supporting documents to verify ASME Y14.5 GD&T practices and adherence to company and/or industry standard practices
11. Analyzes design options, confers with necessary staff to resolve details not completely defined; or, generates design concepts with layouts indicating alternative designs and recommended solutions
12. Solves design problems in a timely manner, may be called upon for leadership of problem solving exercises
13. Coordinates and participates in the completion of production drawings by drafting support staff through release cycle
14. Multitasks and prioritizes a large volume of tasks in the Polaris release system efficiently
15. Recommends manufacturing methods and tooling requirements
16. Exhibits subject matter expertise in one or more manufacturing process (ex inj. molding, casting, forging, etc.)
17. Conducts component level or sub-system level design reviews
18. Actively participates in a powertrain design, development or testing peer group
19. Develops design procedures for part, assembly and layout modeling


1. Two year degree in mechanical drafting and design technology
2. Minimum of 2-4 years design/modeling experience
3. Direct design experience with Powertrain components and systems; Powersports-related Powertrains preferred
4. Experience with high feature and complex aluminum castings, using die-casting, sand casting, permanent mold casting processes, forging, and machined components
5. Proven track record and experience with PTC Creo 3D Modeling and Windchill Database Management desired.
6. Must be a self-starter that requires minimal work direction
7. Must show an aptitude for critical thinking
8. Ability to communicate to several designers of varied skill levels
