Job Summary

Engineering Manager to lead the sustaining/Cost Improvement engineering team with the responsibility to provide support and execute multiple complex projects related to mature products with specific regard for product quality, product cost and customer service. This leader will be working within a matrix environment, lead and facilitate cross functional teams and will be responsible for projects including product design/redesign, product quality improvements, and product cost management. The position will directly supervise the sustaining and cost improvement engineering team and will be responsible for career planning of direct reports as well as managing goals and objectives for the team. The Engineering Manager will develop and manage the portfolio for the sustaining and cost improvement team and develop a robust review and prioritization process to manage the portfolio with all of the applicable stakeholders. Responsible for ensuring the sustaining and cost improvement team supports the CAPA and complaints as received.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables by working closely with stakeholders
  • Manage tasks, resource requirements and schedule for sustaining projects
  • Makes specific personnel assignments to support completion of programs, e.g. technical studies, preparation of specifications and technical plans, product design, and testing, etc
  • Drive collaboration and cooperation for best use of expertise and resources
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the projects to stakeholders
  • Ensure that staff members are executing and managing activities within their function and managing project milestones.  Ensure that team members are highly capable and strong contributors to the team and organization
  • Coach, motivate and foster professional development of direct reports
  • Ensure technical support for complex validations, product design optimization and/or new technologies deployed within sustaining operations
  • Create and manage expense budgets associated with the applicable engineering department
  • Understand and oversee conformance to regulatory requirements of medical product design and manufacture
  • Lead process improvement, best practice sharing, and standardization across all supported sites utilizing lead principles
  • Ensures product conformance to sound engineering principles and practice, applicable industry, government, and customer requirements and related specifications; demonstrates same by detailed analysis and/or test as required
  • Keeps abreast of the latest technology developments to ensure the company sees available opportunities for technical improvements in products and services, and/or cost reductions
  • Assists Director Engineering in preparation of department budgets, and controls expenditures within budget limits

Supports as a liaison between Sustaining Engineering and R&D
