This position provides a fun, engaging and meaningful summer academy experience for teenagers and young adults with disabilities at the direction of the Transition Instructor.

Provides direct interaction with students providing supervision and safety of the students at all times.

Provides pre-employment support for participants in grades 9th through 12th which includes effective communication, learning transportation services and safety in the community.




  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (G.E.D., HiSET, TASC)

  • Experience in working with teenagers with disabilities preferred
  • Experience providing training/instruction to students with disabilities


  • 18 years old or older
  • Possess and maintains a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License in order to operate Agency vehicles;
  • Pass OSBI, MVR, DHS Registry Check, reference checks, pre-employment drug test and any other background check as Agency requires or deems necessary.

  • Safety Sensitive Position Identification:  A safety sensitive position (SSP) is a position in   which an individual has a key and direct role in an activity where impaired performance could result in: 
    • a serious incident, or
    • an improper or inadequate response to a potentially serious incident.


  • Standing up to eight hours
  • Able to move maximum weight of 50 pound (vertically)
  • Able to move maximum weight of 25 pounds (horizontally)
  • Able to move the above-described weights a maximum distance of 100 feet
  • Regularly required to talk with or listen to others. Frequently required to sit and use hands to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls. Vision requirements include depth perception, ability to see peripherally and ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus.
  • Required to be able to operate a vehicle for travel/transportation purposes.
  • The demands of the job include being individually responsible for a group of clients and therefore must be able to physically demonstrate first aid skills including seizure care; perform CPR; use an AED and perform the Heimlich maneuver.
  • Additional physical requirements to be considered depending on the training and the skill being trained and can include sitting, bending, stooping, lifting, grasping and stretching.

NOTE - Staff will be counseled for failure to adhere to maximum weights or for non-use of required Safety Equipment.


This is a summer program for youth with disabilities and classified as temporary. Employment dates occur during the month of June only with limited planning hours beginning in April. Working hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday. A 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks, if scheduling allows. This position is non-exempt and receives overtime pay at time and a half rate for over 40 hours worked per payroll week. There will be required workdays of orientation and training prior to the start of the academy. 


Provides continual direct supervision and ensures safety of students participating in the program; this is non-negotiable. As a result, the following is expected:

  • No cell phone or electronic device usage during work times unless work related
  • No reading (non-work related) during work times
  • Not engaged in any other activity that distracts from continual supervision of students during program times

Assist Academy Director/Vocational Services Program Director in implementing all academy activities.

Know where students are always and be responsible for their safety and well-being.

Be a positive role model for students , watching language used, topics discussed with students , behavior, in attitude and dress.

Interpret rules for the students and see they are followed and respected.

Report any incidents of injury, inappropriate behavior, accidents or problems between students as soon as they occur to the Program Director.

Work cooperatively with other academy staff members.

Provide for crisis intervention in the community and on site if necessary, ensuring the safety of the students during such times. Utilizes positive behavioral supports strategies to intervene and redirect the students.
