Description

TITLE: Fabrication Technician

DEPARTMENT:  Engineering

REPORTS TO:  Fabrication Technician Lead

JOB SUMMARY:   

To layout, fit, align, weld, and fabricate structural and cosmetic motorcycle components and weldments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans and fabricates the construction of prototypes to meet customer and company requirements 

  • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools

  • Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications

  • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components

  • Smooth workpiece edges and fix taps, tubes, and valves

  • Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools

  • MIG and TIG weld thin steel and stainless steel tubes and mounts with proper structural and cosmetic qualities

  • Layout materials and fit and align pieces parts and components to make up complete assembly

  • Operate manual saws, lathes, grinders, mills, drilling machines and press

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe environment

  • Thoroughly understand and adhere to the department goals, objectives, and strategy 

  • Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions 

  • Present and maintain positive morale amongst employees

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in welding and fabrication preferred

  • Experienced working as a metal welder/fabricator or equivalent

  • Experience with working on motorcycles preferred

  • Experience with basic hand tools

  • Flexible, energetic, forward-thinking, and creative with high moral and ethical standards

  • High analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus

  • Well organized, self-directed and the ability to work on an independent basis

  • Able to relate to people at all levels of the organization in a positive fashion

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of computer applications

PHYSICAL AND PPE REQUIREMENTS:  

Employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand

  • Use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls

  • Talk and hear

  • Walk, stoop, crouch and bend

  • Reach above shoulders

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance

  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

  • Must comply with safety equipment standards; safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed shoes
