Description

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Director of Compensation and Benefits in Mechanicsville, Virginia. The Director of Compensation and Benefits is a high impact role focused on driving business outcomes and responsible for the design, implementation, management, and ongoing evaluation of Carter Machinery’s compensation and benefits programs. This is a key role in determining how Carter Machinery optimizes the total rewards offering to attract top talent, foster retention, and enhance engagement company-wide. The Director of Compensation and Benefits will evaluate competitive practices and positioning relative to market and make recommendations to ensure Carter Machinery’s compensation and benefits plans are attractive and support Carter. This role manages compensation cycles, including base salary, promotion, bonus, and equity review cycles. We’re seeking candidates with minimum of ten years’ experience managing a compensation and benefits function. Must have a proven track record of developing compensation and benefits programs and effective processes that support company culture, values, and business strategy. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Human Resources.

Requirements for the Director of Compensation and Benefits position include:
  • Thorough understanding of compensation plan development and benefits functions.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and make decisions.
  • Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical data relating to salary/budget and benefits administration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate with individuals at all levels of the company. Able to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other firm personnel.
  • Able to work collaboratively across teams; strategically focused on continuous improvement.
  • Willing to travel, including some overnights, and work hours required by job.

Physical requirements must be met for the Director of Compensation and Benefits job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned.
