Dermalogica is seeking a dynamic and talented Financial Accountant to join the U.S. Accounting/Finance team. This is an important role with full responsibility for the day-to-day accounting tasks, month-end close duties, account reconciliations, and financial reporting, always with an eye for opportunities to automate and simplify work that is currently performed manually. The ideal candidate can think at a process level, spot issues, and think creatively to find solutions and improvements. We would be excited to support the successful candidate through a CPA or similar qualification as well as gaining broad experience in Dermalogica and the broader Unilever organization.

This role will be based at the Corporate Headquarters and will be reporting to the Director of Accounting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operational accounting tasks financial accounting is delivered in full in our head office in Carson, with no outsourced providers. Therefore, alongside the Director of Accounting, this role will be responsible for providing accounting expertise to the 500 US employees and for delivering all core accounting activities. This includes; fixed assets accounting, lease accounting, foreign exchange, banking, cash flow management, accruals, provisions, prepayments, and tax. This also includes the maintenance of our accounting structure within JD Edwards.
  • Month-end close led by the Director of Accounting, ensure we deliver all month-end activities required to report in compliance with IFRS and on time on day +2. This includes key account reconciliations (P&L + B/S) and a detailed results review with the US Finance Director.
  • Financial controls this role is accountable for ensuring that all financial controls are operating as designed, providing positive assurance to the US Finance Director. Our control framework covers several accounting and operational systems (Concur, JD Edwards ERP, Bloomberg fixed assets, Bank of America, Blackline, Adaptive insights), covers operational controls across multiple departments, and defines appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Risk management support the U.S. management team to ensure key business risks (financial and reputational) are managed. This includes responsibilities regarding statutory requirements and any audit / regulatory requirements.
  • Create speed and flexibility through simplification we need to find opportunities to remove complexity from our operations to deliver efficiencies for our business partners and our finance team. This role will aid this work in Dermalogica for the general accounting team.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance
  • Relevant experience (incl. audit or consulting) is highly desired
  • Either qualified CPA or part qualified. We will provide further study support
  • Experience with working in a fast-close environment
  • Experience and comfort working with a range of different systems/accounting tools
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel
