This Senior Sales Data Analyst position provides a great opportunity to gain valuable experience at Dermalogica, a member of the Unilever Prestige division that consists of nine companies worldwide: Dermalogica, Murad, Kate Somerville, Ren, Living Proof, Hourglass, Garancia, Tatcha and most recently Paula's Choice, which was acquired in June 2021. Six of these companies are based in the Los Angeles area, along with Dollar Shave Club, another Unilever subsidiary.

This role is currently remote but will be based in our headquarters in Carson, California when we return to the office. The successful applicant will generate performance-enhancing insights both through disseminating quality analytics across the business and through diving deep into key topics. This position will empower people across the business with information, and will also support our entrepreneurial culture through the building, testing and iterating of hypotheses. To do this, we need people with analytical expertise and the motivation to apply it to prestige skin care.

Our analytics agenda is moving at pace and this role is key to maintaining our status of industry leader. We have work to do to: establishing a standard data model within a future-proofed environment; continuing to develop Business Analytics tools across chosen software (Tableau/Power BI); and building analytical skills across the business.

The right person for this role will demonstrate a passion and curiosity for identifying and interpreting trends within complex datasets in order to deliver actionable insights. She/he will have the right analytical mindset, enjoy problem solving, and understand how to ask the right questions to deliver solution-focused outcomes.

The candidate will be exposed to new technological software in this department, such as BI platforms like Tableau and Power BI, ETL solutions like Alteryx and machine learning.

This role reports through the finance function to the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager but is broader in scope than simply financial/sales analytics.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Business partnering with different audiences will be a key function of this role. The Senior Analyst will be expected to support the sales and management teams.
  • Synthesize data and focus on key, relevant business insights. Effectively communicate insights and recommendations that contribute to the development of business-driving strategies.
  • Lead weekly calls with key members of the sales team to review their territories and ensure that key drivers and emerging trends are understood, and that there is full transparency of gaps to target (sales performance, innovation penetration, inventory levels, promotional impacts, etc.)
  • Ensure the different corporate departments have the standard analytical tools to be self-sufficient in performance management.
  • Embed user-friendly analytical tools for the teams, including monitoring usage, shutting off what is not used, and having all workbooks accessible to the users in the proper formats.
  • Review current distribution of reports in Excel and determine what can be simplified/automated in Tableau/Power BI.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Data Science, Data Analytics, or other related field required
  • Previous analytical experience is required
  • Strong leadership skills (planning, communication, relationship building, influencing)
  • Knowledge of SQL, Tableau or Power BI, and Excel required. Any additional business intelligence/ETL tools or programming knowledge is a plus.
