The Systems and Security Engineer designs, develops, supports, and maintains the Credit Union’s systems and security infrastructure, including the implementation, design and security of hardware and software, both on premise and in the cloud. Analyzes information security systems to find vulnerabilities and recommend/develop security measures to protect the Credit Union against unauthorized access. Develops, modifies, patches, security hardens, tests and maintains all Credit Union IT systems. Creates scripts and automation to improve both security and functionality inside and out of the IT department. Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, the Systems and Security Engineer ensures that IT operations, controls and security are managed through design, development and ongoing maintenance of standards and processes.

Manages Active Directory administration, security, auditing and compliance with Netwrix Auditor.
Establishes and maintains network users, user environment, directories and security.
Performs the timely administration and logging of user accounts’ access rights across the application portfolio.
Manages daily IT security operations and controls, to include performing/overseeing system patches, virus updates, third-party software deployment and updates through PDQ or other patching system. Responsible for all email security with specific emphasis on Office 365 cloud-based infrastructure and Barracuda Cloud Control archival.
Ensures that applications, servers, and backup processes are effective, reliable, efficient, and replicating to our disaster recovery site with Veeam Enterprise Backup.
Develops and implements a standard set of security requirements, technical designs, and recommended configurations for servers, workstations, and printers.
Maintains security policies, processes, and procedures documentation.
Researches, recommends, and implements solutions to improve systems security and administration.
Creates scripts and automation to improve both security and functionality inside and out of the IT department.
Analyzes information security systems to find vulnerabilities and recommend/develop security measures to protect the Credit Union against unauthorized access.
Recommends and develops security measures to protect information against unauthorized modification or loss
Analyzes and interprets system logs to identify potential issues within the computer systems, and to resolve those issues.
Determines technical requirements, identification of risks to the existing infrastructure, and assists in developing the organization’s technology road map.
Troubleshoots and resolves system-related problems as required.
Participates in business continuity tests and disaster recovery by responding to disruption of operations, follows recovery steps for critical functions and systems, and takes mitigation measures for less critical functions. Restores a permanent facility for the Credit Union’s network, telephone system, PC support, and email system.
Reviews and updates Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans and agreements. Involved in annual DR test, and presents results to Leadership, Risk Assessment, and external auditors.
Recommends and implements security policies in direct coordination with plan.
Maintains awareness and reports on security technology trends and requirements, such as emerging standards for new security technologies and opportunities. Maintains in-depth knowledge of current and emerging technologies and standards.
Evaluates and makes recommendations of online courses for annual compliance training in partnership with the Human Resources and Education Departments.
Regularly attends and participates in in-house training.
Prepares and delivers security reporting to the Information Security Committee monthly. Assists in preparation of the Information Technology Department budget.
Performs duties as assigned by management and may be assigned to work at any branch.
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related technical field, or a minimum of eight years equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge and understanding of Active Directory, Security, Azure, Intune, VMware vSphere, VMware vCloud, Citrix VDI, Microsoft Defender Threat Protection, Windows Server, Windows Workstation, Microsoft 365, SCCM, NetWrix, Veeam, PCI Compliance, Disaster Recover, Azure, PDQ, Scripting and Automation.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
CompTIA Security+ (equivalent or higher security) or ability to get within 6 months of employment
Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) -- Recommended
Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP)
Computer System/Software (Windows Workstation and Server, Microsoft Office 365, etc.) Proficiency in Windows services (DNS, DHCP, DFS, SQL, IIS, Active Directory, and Group Policies).
Coding/Programming Proficiencies (Batch and PowerShell)
Other Skills and Abilities
Operates a variety of office equipment and machines.
Travels, attends, and participates in meetings, seminars, and conferences held before and after normal business hours that may require unaccompanied long-distance travel and overnight lodging.
Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
