Position Overview
A Framing Carpenter works with wooden construction materials to build and repair residential and commercial structures. Their duties include selecting appropriate construction materials, planning construction jobs and monitoring code compliance and safety standards on construction sites.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Rough framing and building wooden structures, including walls, roofs and flooring
- Doing joinery work that includes installing joists and studs, installing flashing and securing structural supports
- Performing finish work, such as new moldings and interior fixtures
- Designing custom furniture, cabinets, cupboards, and interior walls
- Estimating material and time costs for projects, including costs for labor, wood materials and fasteners
- Choosing the appropriate wood materials for interior and outdoor projects, choosing high-quality materials and matching clients’ budgets
- Working with general contractors, clients, and suppliers to complete projects within time and resource constraints
- Interpreting blueprints and technical drawings and building in compliance with local code standards
Requirements:
- A high school diploma and on-the-job apprenticeship
- Training and experience with power and hand tools, such as saws, drills, chisels, fasteners, and sanders
- Knowledge of wood species, including manufactured wood products such as plywood and pressure-treated lumber
- Joinery skills and knowledge of fasteners, including nails, wood glue and various dry joints
- Creativity and the ability to make and follow design plans
- Ability to follow health and safety codes
Conditions and Physical Demand
Working conditions Including but not limited to working inside and/or outside buildings with construction in progress and extreme weather.
Physical demands Includes using a variety of construction tools/equipment. Includes heavy lifting and moving large awkward items that weigh more than 50 pounds.

Salary: $25.00-32.00 per hour, depending on experience
