Competitive pay of $94,000 - $98,000 / year which includes base pay rate of $30.64 / hr and increases after 90 days to $31.64 / hr plus weekly production bonus. Generous benefits starting on your first day!

You Have:

  • Ability to use simple specifications, dials, and gauges to regulate electricity and water flow.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 year of industrial or manufacturing experience required. Experience in a steel manufacturing, melt shop environment strongly preferred.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating 8 hr schedule
  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged sitting, standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters, heights, extreme temperature conditions.

Your Purpose:

You will be responsible for the planning, setting-up, and performing the routine duties and operators necessary to cast molten steel through a continuous casting machine process. Follow prescribed methods, procedures, and operation sequence.

Your Work:
  • Monitor all Caster performance parameters.
  • Work involves a variety of simple tasks, routine in nature, requiring much care to remove slag from melt in mold and properly regulate metal flow from tundish through continuous casting machine and out to the cooling beds.
  • Prepare tundish and other equipment for use prior to casting.
  • Operate control consoles regulating mold oiling, metal level, turn on and off cooling chamber and control line speed, torch cuts, roll line and strand pushers.
  • Drag slag from molten metal in mold manually with metal rod.
  • Clean billets from caster pit roll line areas, cut scrap billets and coordinate removal with Billey Yard Crane Operator.
  • Prepare machine and accessories for casting subsequent heats; change nozzles, lance, pre-heat, and reset tundishes; clean slag from machine; and reposition and pack dummy bar end inside machine mold.
  • Inventory supplies to support Casting processes.
  • Check temperature of next heat in QMOS, check console indicators and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed.
  • Clear breakouts and restart strands while casting.
  • Ensure all start up and turnaround checks are done to allow for smooth and safe caster start ups and turnarounds.
  • Install and remove mold assembles, spray segment, and calibrate mold level controls.
  • Monitor and document all operational and quality parameters in QMOS.
  • Direct maintenance activities when called to repair issues while caster in operation.
  • Change and Maintain nozzle shooter cylinder.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Inspect casting machine and check spray chamber, pipes, roll lines and accessories. Perform repairs as required.
  • Work closely with Ladle Tender to regulate steel temperature control casting speeds and when digging out nozzles in accordance with standard operating procedures or practices.
  • Perform all routine checks to ensure minimal breakouts and quality product.
  • Work with Billet Yard Recorder to segregate suspect quality billets.
  • Record tundish temperatures and all process supplies consumed at caster station.
  • Take final chemistry sample of steel and send to lab.
  • Perform weekly preventative maintenance of molds, spray chamber, torches, and roll lines.
