Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler
• Cuts workpiece using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife
• Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments
• Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications
• Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
• Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts
• Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
• Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors
• Perform other duties as required and assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 2+ years’ experience operating as a commercial fitter
• Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
• Must be able to read an assemble to blueprints
• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.)
• Deftness and attention to detail
• Current and valid certification a plus
Success Factors and Competencies:
• Must be able to make amperage and voltage adjustments to welding equipment to provide optimal weld penetration in relationship to various steel thickness
• Follow welding procedure specifications in designated fabrication areas
• Ability to complete projects with little or no supervision
• Must be able to operate all welding equipment
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
• Steel toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required at all times
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
