Position Summary:
The Production Control Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end order fulfillment process at the steel plant, including production scheduling, inventory planning, and on-time delivery to customers. This role ensures customer orders are executed in alignment with customer service standards while balancing operational efficiency and working capital. The Production Control Manager works collaboratively with Operations, Sales, and the S&OP organization to achieve business objectives.
Scope & Complexity:
This role operates in a fast-paced steel manufacturing environment that requires rapid responses to changing customer demands and production conditions. The Manager must integrate knowledge of the melt shop, rolling mill, finishing, and logistics to support achieving results. The position carries significant responsibility for customer satisfaction, delivery reliability, and operational efficiency. The Production Control Manager will be responsible for establishing production schedules, ensuring resources are available and allocated correctly, and tracking production performance to meet customer demand. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of production procedures and the ability to optimize production and resource allocation for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the order fulfillment process from order release through production, inventory allocation, and customer delivery.
- Provided leadership and oversight to a team of schedulers, expeditors, and dispatchers, guiding daily operations and championing continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Develop and maintain production schedules that align customer demand with plant capacity, material availability, and operational constraints. Maintain outside processor relationships and coordination of utilization as needed to balance demand exceeding internal capacity.
- Coordinate closely with Operations to ensure schedules are executable and balanced for optimized throughput and efficiency along with customer service level. Work with business area leaders to ensure orders are processed in accordance with customer service standards, quality requirements, and delivery expectations.
- Plan and manage inventory to ensure adequate bloom levels and lead time of WIP while minimizing excess inventory and working capital.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to prioritize orders, manage changes, and communicate delivery commitments.
- Partner with the S&OP team to align short-term execution with the agreed demand and supply plan. Identify risks to order fulfillment and proactively develop mitigation plans.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as on-time delivery, inventory levels, and vendor spend. Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to planning accuracy, inventory optimization, and order execution processes.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and company policies in all production control activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities & Reporting Structure :
- Supervises a team of Schedulers, Expeditors and Dispatchers (approx. 4-10 ee's)
- Reports to: Director of Order Fulfillment, S&OP & Logistics (with routine collaboration with the location VPGM)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in production planning, production control, logistics or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience leading or supervising employees in an operational or planning environment.
- Strong understanding of production scheduling, inventory management, and order fulfillment processes.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, and S&OP teams
