LEAD SUPERINTENDENT – SYRACUSE
We are seeking a self-driven, people-first construction professional to serve as our Lead Superintendent, running all field operations on projects in the $5 to $50 million range. You'll be on the job site every day as a key member of the project team, working alongside experienced colleagues and growing your leadership and technical skills along the way. We're looking for someone who listens well, communicates clearly, solves problems with creativity, and takes real ownership of results. If you're excited about this role but don't match every qualification below, we encourage you to apply anyway.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct the daily work of trade contractors and their subcontractors so quality stays high and the approved schedule is met.
- Plan, document, and communicate how field changes affect the work.
- Stay deeply familiar with the contract documents so you can anticipate problems before they arise.
- Obtain the permits needed for construction, or confirm that subcontractors have secured theirs.
- Build credibility with owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by being fair and trustworthy.
- Act as the primary safety representative in the field, enforcing safety compliance across all trades.
- Run regular meetings with contractors.
- Keep daily reports and project documentation current using construction software tools.
- Build, manage, and update the project schedule, and put contingency plans in place when conditions shift.
- Keep the project team and trade contractors informed on schedule status and changes.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics.
- Develop the project quality plan with the operations excellence team, then oversee it and make adjustments as needed.
- Work with the internal site services group to order materials and schedule crews.
- Review and help write scopes of work, and take part in subcontractor buyout.
- Help track time and materials, and assist with financial forecasting for general requirements.
- Lead stretch and flex sessions, daily huddles, and pre-task plan reviews.
- Partner closely with business development so your projects, pursuits, and client deliverables support the company's sales strategy, and look for chances to strengthen relationships with clients, partners, and the wider industry.
- Train, coach, and manage your direct reports, including Field Engineers and Superintendents, on project needs, construction knowledge, business sense, processes, and daily tasks.
- Oversee the workload and performance of your team, keeping everyone aligned with company standards.
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that keeps team members motivated and engaged.
- Share company and department strategy with your direct reports.
- Pitch in on tasks usually handled by more junior roles when needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7 to 12 years of experience as a superintendent leading a portion of the work, or an entire project, valued at $30 million or more on commercial or industrial construction.
- OSHA 30-hour certification.
- STS-C certification.
- Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed training.
- Strong technical and communication skills, with excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt as needs change.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with the project team daily.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of construction software tools, including logistics and scheduling software.
- Fluency in reading construction documents and drawings, with knowledge of all phases of construction.
- Experience and proficiency across most divisions of work, including methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
- Strong understanding of construction safety processes, and the ability to enforce a project safety plan.
- Ability to build a "safety first" culture where every tradesperson works with an injury-free mindset.
